That release is hard to see...

BOZEMAN, Montana – Junior Chris Murray, Montana State’s starting quarterback the past two seasons, will miss the 2018 campaign to focus on academics, Bobcat head coach Jeff Choate said on Wednesday.

“Chris is obviously an important part of this team,” Choate said, “but everyone that enters this program and this University knows that academics are the top priority. This will be a year for Chris to get his priorities in order and raise his academic work to the standard that MSU and this football program demand.”

Choate indicated that quarterback competition commences with the opening of team practices on August 3.

Well the fall camp just got a lot more interesting. Makes way more sense to the amount of QBs brought in this offseason as well (3)

Its really inexcusable on Chris's part.

Was having a private convo with Vim earlier today as I heard this was a real possibility. I made the same point, that this is two years in a row now where he put himself in academic trouble. I told him I don’t want to be insensitive to learning abilities though. He may have some stuff he’s working through or maybe there’s more to the story. I hope he figures it out as you want to see kids succeed on and off the field

Completely agree.

These guys get a lot of academic help. For your QB to not be able to make the grades, that’s really, really bad.

sooooooooooooooooooo, just throwing this out there.... lots of options to choose from this fall..... what are the chances we see Troy Andersen move to QB?

I'm still guessing/assuming he will be the starting RB.... but ya never know.

Another random thought- but I would not be surprised at all if Casey Baumen (sp?) comes in and wins the spot as a true freshman, that guy looks pretty legit, and was rated as a very high recruit.

Next man up. This is year 3. There should be enough depth and talent by now at the QB position to keep it rolling (or there is something wrong).

Downside: CM decides to transfer.

Upside: He's only 19, so he'll have an entire year to get physically bigger and stronger. (hopefully accelerate academically too)

This was my thought as well. No where has it been said that he is ineligible but rather is focusing on academics. If he was academically ineligible would he be able to work out the team?

In a huge way that's for sure. Having watched the other Qbs we have try to read defenses and throw the ball, Murray was by far the best out of the group. Granted I didn't get to see Jonsen or the new recruit we just got, but man we are hurting at this position unless one of the for mentioned guys steps up. To be frank, Rovig just doesn't look good and he was so far behind Murray in every aspect of being a QB coming out of spring ball.

Jonsen or Bauman.

Odds are heavy it’ll be Jonsen. Andersen at QB is a waste of his time.

There isn't, unless Jonsen is game ready or one of the true freshman we got can step up.

They did that bc he’s obviously reached the point where he can’t get his grades up in time for the season. So that’s smart by the coaches, but c’mon kid...it isn’t that hard to pass classes.

Why was Baumen not mentioned as a competitor for the starting spot but the walk on was?
