This is quite the development. Will he be able to play this fall?
My first question is obviously why? It looked like he was in a great place on the depth chart at OLB. However, it might have to do with playing time. It's a surprising loss for the Buffs, as Sparaco had a good spring and was expected to compete for a starting job in the fall. The 6-foot-5, 245-pounder was listed second-team on the final depth chart released in the spring.
So even if he was a starter at OLB, he might only see the field less than half the time, and if he stays at second-team he might never get on the field.Despite losing Sparaco and the others, the Buffs still have good depth at the position. In their 3-4 base defense, the Buffs list two starting spots at outside linebacker, but typically only one is on the field.
Then the obvious question is where will he most likely play at MSU? He's been all over the field, these are the positions I've read he has played: defensive end, outside linebacker, receiver, tight end and quarterback. I assume he'll be a LB, but he'd probably make a great defensive end. Maybe a hybrid OLB/DE position.
