Thanks for sharing. I just looked him up the other day, to find nothing. Glad he's back.

You have an UDFA in Person, a first-round pick that saw that Cowboys roundly criticized for picking that high in Frederick, a 6th-round pick in Kelce, and a 5th-round pick in Kilgore as the top four graded centers for the week. I'm guessing other positions would show a similar pattern. Season-ending grades along with draft position for the top 5 may be an interesting way to spend part a soggy Oregon February weekend afternoon.

I heard something on Cowherd the other day about the patriots deciding it was less worth their time to evaluate college players to draft and more worth it to sign known players that had played. No need to project. The point was the pats are the ones usually trying new things before the rest of the league and starting trends.

I'm pretty sure Person was drafted, although I'm also pretty sure it was in the 6th or 7th round.PapaG wrote:The NFL draft is such a crapshoot.VimSince03 wrote:Well look who showed up as the highest graded center in the NFL in Week 13...

It's also important to point out that teams don't usually spend high draft picks on centers.

Drafted by the 49ers in the 7th round, IIRC. Wasn't drafted as a center, but in his time in the NFL he has learned to play all 5 O-line positions.BLACKnBLUEnGOLD wrote:I'm pretty sure Person was drafted, although I'm also pretty sure it was in the 6th or 7th round.PapaG wrote:The NFL draft is such a crapshoot.VimSince03 wrote:Well look who showed up as the highest graded center in the NFL in Week 13...

Can't make up my mind as to which is better - 55-21 or 48-14.

Re: Mike Person signs
That's fairly common around the league for guys drafted at other positions to end up playing center. Out of the guys in that graphic, only Travis Frederick was primarily a center in college. Neither Kilgore nor Person ever played center in college, although Kilgore did play center in high school.

Re: Mike Person signs
Both Kilgore and Person were drafted by the 49ers in the same draft (2011). Kilgore was a 5th round pick (163 overall) out of then FCS App State and Person was drafted in the 7th round (239 overall). Both were originally drafted to be guards first but the 49ers (and coach Jim Harbaugh) wanted them to be versatile enough to learn all IOL positions. Funny that they're now both starting centers in the NFL.BLACKnBLUEnGOLD wrote:That's fairly common around the league for guys drafted at other positions to end up playing center. I'm fairly certain I've never seen a player say "Montana State" on a national night game.
Mike Person just said "Mike Person, Montana State" as he's starting at center tonight for the Colts.

He was long-snapping too, an excellent skill to have on his resume. He did a lot of long snapping in the pre-season. I think Dane Fletcher learned to long-snap too.

This being his 8th year he should be approaching one of the longest careers of any Bobcat in the NFL. I think Jon Borchardt was about 8 years and the same for Kollar.

Going to be hard to beat Jan Stenerud for that honor. But Mike has certainly had a fine career and has always represented MSU extremely well.gtapp wrote:This being his 8th year he should be approaching one of the longest careers of any Bobcat in the NFL.
