Andersen had a passer rating of 87.9 the first seven games (2 of which he didn’t play QB) and has a rating of 129.6 the past five games. That’s almost a 50% increase. His 129.6 would rank him 7th in the BSC. One spot below Sneed.
That’s a dramatic improvement. I know Murray was steadily improving, but not that quickly. Murray’s rating was 130.2 his last five games. Murray’s first year it was 110.6.
How much of that is due to the much weaker pass Defenses played in the last five weeks?
UIW has a team efficiency D of 147, and Troy hit 150 in his best passing game, by far, on the season. EWU, WSU (and SDSU, although Troy didn’t play QB) are among the top passing defenses in the country. I don’t have Troys numbers, but I think he was around 100 against teams that average 114.
It’s probably worth comparing Troys rating to those 5 teams’ average pass efficiency D to make sure that those numbers aren’t a reflection of the weaker schedule in the last 5 games.

Not much correlation. First four conference games were Portland State, EWU, Idaho and WSU. PSU and Idaho were bad. Last four was ISU, Poly, UNC and UM. UM was #4, Poly and ISU middle of the pack. Hard to say about WIU and UIW since they played in different conferences. UIW played a couple FBS teams.

Looks like the first 5 the other team averaged 129.4 and in the last 5, they averaged 134.3
I’d have to do a spreadsheet, though to see how Troys passing compared against each team.
But you would certainly expect his passer rating to go up at least 5 points just because of the weaker competition.

his passer rating went from 87.9 vs the he 129.4 teams to 129.6 vs the 134.3 teams. Andersen’s rating improved by 41.7, while the competition’s rating only got 4.9 worse. Part of the difference between the opponents ratings was his improved passing.

They stats are reinforcing, but just watching Andersen play is enough. His game has become much better and much more consistent. He only had one game over 57% in the first five and hasn’t had any below 57% since. Three games below 90 passer rating in first five. None below 100 since. Three of his top four rated games are in the past four games. I’m not saying he’s a great passer, but the improvement is unquestionable.

He hit some tight windows that he hasn't made all year, or even tried. He is getting confidence to make those throws on top of actually being able to make those throws.

I think the passing game is slowing down for him, he seems to be reading the defense better, I still don't think he is going through many progressions if any but he is much more comfortable looking to pass than early in the season.
I think that he he had an off-season and spring to continue improving he could be a solid QB, I am not advocating for that just saying that he is improving that much that he could do it.

How about this for a stat:
The last 2 games that Troy Anderson has played in against teams from North Dakota Troy's team outscored the other team by a total of 112-21.

Just a fun and misleading stat that includes the 64-0 drubbing of North Dakota by the Montana squad in the 2017 badlands bowl

Good thread to read again. Everybody was correct to some degree in what is his best position! What a unique football player.
