2017 Captains????

Post by catscat » Tue Apr 25, 2017 9:15 am

Seems I recall that when Ash was here, the captains for the upcoming season were named sometime around the end of spring practice. I don't recall when they were named last year, Can someone remind me when we might learn who they are? Also, maybe some educated guesses as to who might be named captains. I'm thinking Mac Bignell will be one and maybe Bryson McCabe - both seniors.

Can't make up my mind as to which is better - 55-21 or 48-14.

From things I have heard, I think Bruggman should be a team captain. I know he had his struggles last year, but he is a senior and I hear he is a really good kid. I personally think that DMac has helped him a lot and he seems to have gained a lot of confidence. He made some really nice passes during the last 2 scrimmages.

Punters are people too!!

From last year: http://msubobcats.com/news/2016/8/21/fo ... eason.aspx

Choate likes to let the team establish captains with the summer workouts figuring into the equation. Then by the end of fall camp, they are decided.

Here are my picks for team captains:

Bryson McCabe
Mitch Herbert
Nick LaSane
Bryce Alley
Dylan Mahoney
Grant Collins
Mac Bignell

If they only pick four: McCabe, Herbert, Mahoney, Collins.

Not sure how many are named, but I imagine the 4M's will be in contention. Mac, McCabe, Mitch, and Mahoney.

I agree with those 4. I could see Collins slipping in somewhere, but I feel like those 4 are just about a lock to win it. The 4M's it is!

What about Bryce Alley? He seems like a pretty solid kid who has paid his dues and gained the respect of players and coaches.

Agreed, but Would you have him as a d captain over McCabe or Mac?

Good point. Who's to say we can't have 6 captains though?

Montana State had 7 captains last season: Mac Bignell, Bryson McCabe, Khari Garcia, Chad Newell, Gunnar Brekke, J.P. Flynn, Fletcher Collins.

Bryce Alley started 2 games last year,(the last 2) due to injuries in the secondary. Grant Collins has started 22 straight games as a freshman and sophomore and played virtually every down. Why would you rank Bryce over Grant , their stats aren't even close??

I didn't say I would put him at captain over Collins. I was asking about him being a captain, not saying he should be picked over anyone. Also captaincy has absolutely nothing to do with stats, or starts. Being a captain is about being a team leader and being chosen because the rest of the guys respect you, your work ethic and what you bring to the team.

Captain equals leader. Not Stat leader.
