Post by VimSince03 » Tue Mar 14, 2017 5:39 am

Its happening today. Don't know who is participating but there should be some Twitter posts on numbers from players throughout the day.

Fletcher's vertical jump would've been the #1 jump at the 2017 NFL Combine among linebackers. JP's 30.5 vert would've been Top 5 at the NFL Combine among lineman. Shows off his athleticism.

A 38.5" vertical for Collins is almost hard to believe. That's a big time leap. Kobe Bryant had a 38" vertical.

https://twitter.com/SkylineSportsMT/status/841691552132952064 Not bad for JP on the 40. Fletcher Collins is having one hell of a workout with maybe the exception of his bench number (which still would've been average for linebackers at the combine). His unofficial 40 time would've been the second best time at the NFL Combine for linebackers and the #1 time was posted by Jabrill Peppers from Michigan, who is more of a safety. Fletcher is working himself into at least a tryout by this point.

https://twitter.com/SkylineSportsMT/status/841693147985977344 Chad's 20-yard short shuttle time would've been the best time at the NFL Combine among running backs. Fletcher's time is another Top 6 time among linebackers.

https://twitter.com/SkylineSportsMT/status/841696871902932993 https://twitter.com/SkylineSportsMT/status/841697169308450816 JP's 3-cone time of 7.41 would've been the 3rd best time among offensive lineman at the combine. JP has performed well in every athletic explosiveness drill (vertical, broad jump, 3-cone, 20-yard shuttle) for lineman. Chad's 6.76 would've been second best at the combine among RB's. Chad has also impressed in every "short-distance burst" drill in comparison to Combine RB's. Fletcher Collins has posted Top 10 numbers when comparing to LBs at the NFL Combine in 5 categories (Vert., Broad Jump, 3-cone, Short Shuttle, Long Shuttle).

Throughout his final two years when he was the primary ball carrier, Chad had shown underrated athleticism and "wiggle" when running the ball in space. He isn't a burner so his 4.76 40 is about where I expected. But his performances in the drills that show off lateral quickness (wiggle) and explosiveness help explain why he was such a consistent ball carrier throughout his career. His workout should get him a tryout.

As for Fletcher, he sure has come a long way. He may never make an NFL camp or roster but his CFL future stock (ala Alex Singleton) has certainly risen today.

JP also had a pretty good workout. The bench numbers won't blow any scouts out of the water but offensive lineman have put up less than 20 reps at the combine before and still have been excellent in the Pros (see Cody Whitehair's numbers from last year at the combine). JP showed off his athleticism for his size and position and will certainly get a rookie mini-camp tryout or quite possibly be signed as an unrestricted rookie free agent post draft. Would be surprised if he gets drafted but you never know.

John Walker's workout in comparison to NFL Combine DB Performances:

Vertical: 34" (18 DB's with better jumps at Combine)
Broad Jump: 123" (11 DB's with better jumps at Combine)
Bench: 15 (10 DB's with more reps at Combine)
40-yard Dash: 4.51/4.58 (If taking unofficial 4.51, 16 DB's with better runs at Combine)
20-yard Short Shuttle: (no time)
60-yard Long Shuttle: 11.5 (3 DB's with better times at Combine though only 5 DB's participated in drill at Combine)
3-cone Drill: 7.01 (17 DB's with better times at Combine)

John will likely still get an Unrestricted Rookie Free Agent (URFA) deal but I thought his "short area quickness" numbers would be better. In comparison to other DB's at combine, his performance was mediocre which isn't doesn't mean bad but average.

So are these both unofficial? My first thought on seeing 4.64... that's pretty flipping fast for a bigger bruiser back like Newell. As VIM points out, even 4.76 isn't too shabby for his size if that's official.

Newell 4.64, 4.76

Great time to be a BOBCAT!

In comparison to what I thought he would run, Chad did just fine and even better than expected in a few drills. He projects as more of a fullback than running back in the NFL. He has a shot because of his special team prowess.

Hard to compare pro day times to combine times. Pro day times are almost always significantly faster.

True. But a vertical jump is a fixed measurement so you can take that one to the bank. The 40's should be taken with a grain of salt and allow for difference in both directions (faster/slower). The 3-cone, short shuttle, and long shuttle are usually fairly close. Regardless, Fletcher Collins had a very good day and Chad/JP had decent days.

Interesting. What are thought of as some of the reasons for that? Is it electronic vs. hand time or other factors?
