Re: New turf
Old turf is over half gone now, they aren't wasting any time! Interesting that they have left the end zones in place for now and are just removing the green turf so far. This YouTube live stream idea is a fantastic idea and a good time waster, it's like the opposite of watching grass grow.

Re: New turf
What happens to the old turf? Do they recycle it or just throw it in a large body of water?

Definitely the latter.grizgirl wrote:What happens to the old turf? Do they recycle it or just throw it in a large body of water?
Don't let this distract you from the fact that the griz blew a 22-0 lead.

What's taking them so long? I have a couple of old carpet installers who'd have that stuff up and out in about 2 hours!

I walked around the field today. The rubber around the field and on the sidelines is in pretty bad shape. I hope when they replace it this time that they paint it dark blue.

Just saw where a local soccer team is taking the turf. That's why they couldn't cut it up and sell pieces.

Yeah, I saw Jay's interview. I was surprised that they don't normally recycle the stuff. The contractor said he was glad the soccer team was taking the turf so it didn't end up in a landfill.

This is cool. As I recall, MSU was also able to find new homes for the wooden bleachers and the scoreboard when the end zone project was done.PHAT CAT wrote:Just saw where a local soccer team is taking the turf. That's why they couldn't cut it up and sell pieces.

Re: New turf
I finally understand the east side bleachers strategy! If it rusts enough, it looks really similar to the gold on the Bobcat head on the 50. It's like painting, but cheaper!coachouert wrote:https://twitter.com/DanDavies7684/status/866643275209351168

LOL....it is getting bad! Man...that eastside grandstand is an embarrassment!tdub wrote:I finally understand the easy side bleachers strategy! When we replace them it may well end our "find a new home" streak.Catfanatic84 wrote:LOL....it is getting bad! Re: New turf
The horrid look of the eastside grandstand is why you shouldn't leave at halftime. Maybe that's the strategy?
Anyone know if they're doing a rubber inlay or cork? Cork keeps the field cooler, which I'm not sure if that's good considering our climate.

Re: New turf
They are going with rusty nails and broken glass. Toughens up our players. I remember a high school game in Montana many many years ago on a field where they just painted lines on the dirt and you could see the broken glass. One of my team mates ran for a 60 yard touchdown and they asked him about it and his reply was "I didn't want to get tackled because I didn't want to fall on the broken glass."iaafan wrote:The horrid look of the eastside grandstand is why you shouldn't leave at halftime. Re: New turf
Not sure... But that sure doesn't seem like something you need in the Fall in Montana. Depending on the cost, I guess.catsrback76 wrote:Curious if we are also getting the "cooling system" for the turf put in like uM is??? Just wondering.

Re: New turf
I agree, though it is a cork material rather than rubber and apparently does not retain heat as much. Just wondering more if this is the standard installation or an "add-on" accessory that uM is using to try and sell their stadium as avant guard.91catAlum wrote:Not sure...
