Updated with my initial Top 10. Like I said in the OP, list is 100% subject to change and will be edited throughout the preseason. Last year, the top positional groups out of Montana came from those LB/S hybrids (and nearly all of them played QB). In 2018, there will definitely be some legitimate BIGS who will get heavily recruited by both schools. I also think this will be a strong WR/ATH class. The RB's will be decent as well. I will be updating the page with the kids hudl highlights in the coming day. If you feel a kid needs to be listed, speak up!

Also, confirmed that Max Morris has transferred to Glacier High School for his senior season.

I'd guess #10 will end up playing at Montana where his dad coaches.

Gabe has a ton of Griz ties so one would expect him to lean UM if he doesn't get any FBS offers. Bobcats are still actively recruiting him. And I am pretty sure Chad Germer's son would choose UM over MSU. If he chose MSU, that would be a pretty awkward dinner table. As for the rest, too early to tell.

For what it's worth I saw Gabe's brother at multiple MSU football games this year. Gabe's brother is marrying a MSU grad from Jordan and she goes to most of the games, so that's obviously why he was there, but I guess you never know.

Gabe went to visits to both schools last year. His Dad Mark is definitely a fan of the MSU staff. But he is also a big fan of Stitt and Gabe was following Missoula recruits and players on Twitter this past recruiting season. Add to the fact that his sister runs track for UM and his best friend is Nate Dick who just signed there. You never do know but this one I think you can put your focus on the rest of the kids in the class. It will be a deep class for WR talent so losing out on Gabe won't sting as much.

Gabe is a stud and, my guess, is he will get some FBS looks. McElroy is good, and could be great, if he gets his pad level down. He stands up too much and this was used against him in the State Championship game. THat Shelby team will have a few kids that sign places, they have great talent coming back. Looking forward to another great year of talent scouting. :)

Has the perfect frame for a Division 1 offensive lineman. He also runs well for a big kid. Technique can be coached up.

I wasn't saying he isn't. He is every bit a D1 lineman. Wasn't knocking his potential. He is very good. If he gets that part down though....look out!

Would also like to note that Conor Quick is the best INTERIOR offensive line (or maybe even defensive line) prospect since Casey McMillan of Billings Central in 2008. Casey went on to play for Iowa.

I put interior in all caps because Mitch Brott is the best offensive tackle prospect I've seen on tape and that was only two years ago.

Conor's measurables?

Size: 6'2", 275 l.bs
Bench: 395
Squat: 500
Deadlift: 475
100M Dash: 13.5 (Not too shabby for a kid of his size)

Conor will receiver FBS attention.

However, this year is deep in potential college lineman on both sides of the ball. Good prospects that aren't Conor Quick:

Joe McElroy (Missoula Loyola) - 6'4", 240 lbs.
Carson Shuman (Helena Capital) - 6'4", 275 lbs.
Karson Wheat (Deer Lodge) - 6'2", 275 lbs.
Zach Fussell (Hamilton) - 6'3", 265 lbs.
Trevor Welnel (Helena Capital) - 6'3", 250 lbs.
Trey Copeland (Huntley Project) - 6'2", 260 lbs.
Kynan Kellegher (Anaconda) - 6'3", 290 lbs.

Have you seen or heard of any of the Anaconda lineman? Looks like they have lots of beef, just haven't heard about them much.

Yes. Kynan Kellegher - 6'3", 290 lbs. Might as well add him to the list too. Like I said, loaded lineman class.

Capital High mush have one hell of an offensive line next year. That's some major size and skill.

Yeah they are loaded. And Justin Jenks is a First Team All-State DE returning next year as well. He is 6'3", 235 lbs. And then their starting tight end is Matt Culpon and he rolls 6'3", 220 lbs. And then they have one of the top running backs in the state in Seth Schneider. Helena Capital is the favorite to win the thing next year in AA.

Very exciting recruiting class! One thing I've noticed with all of these recent lists of top players in the state is that they are all based on all-state and all-conference. Acceptable so, a player doesn't get those awards for not being good, but it seems they the actual film of the player isn't ever actually watched. I've been watching film on high schoolers for this recruiting class and I must say, it's a very good class, with an abundance of talent in every position. And the o-line, well there is an unbelievable amount. And with all that talent, I must say I think Quick being the top lineman in this class isn't correct. His size and weight is exaggerated, seeing him in person confirms this. His speed, well that is true, it's crazy how quick he is. From his film though, I do not see him as THE best o-lineman in the class. Not finishing blocks, lack of hussle, and most of all, his lack of teamwork has me questioning his leadership and role he plays on this Bruin team. He is a good player, don't get me wrong. Top 20 recruit in the state? Most definitely, but from film, I can honestly say that I don't think he is the best o-lineman in the state, and truthfully, I think he isn't even the best on the front five for capital. He is a solid player, but the Bruins have a few other more solid players.

He also played both ways for the Bruins last year. The only lineman to do that for them in 2016. I also disagree with your assessment of his tape. He has been a First-Team All-State offensive guard since he is a sophomore and it isn't like the coaches are just "giving" him that spot. He has earned it by being one of the best lineman. He pulls extremely well for a high school kid and gets downhill quickly. He is explosive off the ball.

And rightfully so as getting that accolade is a big part of the equation for finding out who the coaches believe are the best players in the state. But the tape and where these kids eventually sign usually backs up where I place them on the list. Also, people/coaches from around the state PM me on the list and the results are usually very positive.
He is a solid player, but the Bruins have a few other more solid players.
Obviously you are a Bruins fan and possibly a relative of a player so my intention with the list isn't to discourage other kids. Also, the top 30 may very well end up having at least 6 Bruins on it by the end of the year in 2017 which would be ridiculous. But all I can say is I disagree with your assessment of Conor.
I can honestly say that I don't think he is the best o-lineman in the state
Who do you see as the best one? It will be a good discussion for the entire offseason in Montana football.
