Re: Montana Recruits 2018
My personal opinion -
Sulser is a very very good player, and makes a difference. I question how his size will stand up at the next level, but he could be a very good one for the Griz.
But Askelson is a man among boys. Game-changer on both sides of the ball. He is a great pickup for the Cats.

Your telling me a 5'9 160 guys is the top rated player? I know, I know, he runs like the wind, I get it!
If you were having a draft or you're a college coach this guy goes first? If I'm a big sky conference coach he's my number one guy? Help me out here!

Okay. Jerry Louis McGee is one of the best players in the Big Sky. He is dynamic and dynamite with the ball in his hands. Gabe is the same size and faster. Despite his size, Gabe is one of the most physical runners in the state. So yes he is the #1 player....and it isn't even close in-state.autocat wrote:Your telling me a 5'9 160 guys is the top rated player? I know, I know, he runs like the wind, I get it!

Absolutely, some of the best players are smaller in stature. Demetrius Crawford is 8th on the career rushing list for the Cats and only played two years for MSU and he was definitely not a big guy. From what I've seen of Sulser, he is the most talented player in Montana right now, regardless of size and I doubt he is the absolute fastest player in Montana High School football. Tyrel Burgess isn't a large guy either, but I can't wait to see what he can do in the run game.

Well he's a great player and he's 17/18 right now.autocat wrote:Your telling me a 5'9 160 guys is the top rated player? I know, I know, he runs like the wind, I get it!

Safe assumption that he will get bigger.
And this isn't the draft, and it's not a big school. It's Montana rankings. Still, Sulser is a stud. Anybody who underestimates him bc of his size is making a huge mistake.

And JLM hasn't held up for a while season so far......VimSince03 wrote:Okay. Jerry Louis McGee is one of the best players in the Big Sky. He is dynamic and dynamite with the ball in his hands. Re: Montana Recruits 2018
This is just a discussion feel free to turn it into an argument. Two of the guys mentioned in the discussion are 160 pounds soaking wet. Jerry Lewis McGee had a injury late in the last season and wasn't a factor and had one catch against the Huskies last week. They are specialists and don't play ever down, they return punts and kicks where players tee off on you at full speed. If offense wins games, then I'm sold. I don't think they can hold up physically to say that's the number one recruit, but based on the population of Montana, he's the best there is to offer for the big sky conference.
Crawford was pushing 190 pounds, I've seen his videos, with his power and strength, I'd take him in a second! Don't know enough about Burgess to comment on. I'll trust the judgement of the college and professional scouts on here for now!

Sulser is more than just a fast guy. Watch Sulsers games and you can see how good he is as a route runner, receiver, and his superior knowledge of the game. If it was all about height and weight, the 6-5 205lb Rovig would be starting over 6-2 180lb Murray. I can also think of a smallish MSU linebacker who is pretty darn good.

Re: Montana Recruits 2018
One problem with doing rankings is some kids have done almost everything they possibly can to get to the level they're at while others still have lots of room to grow. Hard to say who's who out of those kids though.
MSU - 15 team National Champions (most recent 2021); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Very true. The rankings are just our opinions, that's it. These kids are 16-17 years old, and will continue to develop as football players.TomCat88 wrote:One problem with doing rankings is some kids have done almost everything they possibly can to get to the level they're at while others still have lots of room to grow. Missoula Loyola's David Koppang commits to Montana
MISSOULA — Approximately 10 years ago, a little 8-year-old boy stood on the sidelines at Washington-Grizzly Stadium high-fiving his heroes.
That boy is the newest member of Montana's next recruiting class in Loyola Sacred Heart's David Koppang.

Now is when it comes down to who makes the highest offer and whether they are willing to walk-on or get very little money.

Heard the Shuman kid out of Capital received a walk on offer from Washington State. Will MSU step up with any money if true?

Re: Montana Recruits 2018
There are just as talented other kids in Montana who we could get with a PWO on the offensive line. I would only offer a PWO based off the film I've seen.canyoncat wrote:Heard the Shuman kid out of Capital received a walk on offer from Washington State. Will MSU step up with any money if true?
