Re: Summer Classic
http://www.msubobcats.com/news/2017/6/2 ... field.aspxThe Montana State football team is inviting the public to its second annual 'Summer Classic' being held at 6 p.m. Monday, June 26, on the Legion Field at Heroes Park in Bozeman.
Bobcat football is hosting the event with 100 percent of profits made being donated to the Special Olympics of Montana.
The event will consist of an eight-inning slow pitch softball game between the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. MSU's football athletes will open with a 30-minute home run derby session, with Special Olympic athletes participating throughout the event.
"The thing we set out every year to do is give back to the community and we want to make this a big community event," defensive line coach Byron Hout said. "We're putting this on in a great location, at the Legion baseball field, where we can house a couple hundred people.
"The second goal we have is for our players to get a chance to bond with each other and do something outside of football. They're in here training, working hard during the summer, this gets them a way to be active outside of football and also have a chance to compete and have fun. It's definitely a team bonding experience for us."
While the event centers around the Summer Classic, several raffle items will be up for grabs to go along with raising money for the Special Olympics of Montana.
The event will have a $3 entry fee with kids ages 12 and under able to get free admission. MSU football gear, equipment and Legion baseball tickets will be part of the raffle. Concessions will be available throughout the evening.
"We're charging an entry fee to cover our costs and we'll be accepting donations at the door as well," Hout said. "We'll also be raffling off a few items like a signed football helmet, a signed jersey and some other local community businesses have offered a few things as well. It'll be a cool way to get the community there and also raise some more money for the Special Olympics of Montana.
"Everything we'll be doing we will be giving 100 percent back to them. It comes back to the goal where we want to give back to the community that supports us so much."
To contribute a raffle item or for any donations, contact Mandy Patriarche (apatriarche@somt.org) of the Special Olympics of Montana or coach Byron Hout (byron.hout@msubobcats.com). Doors at the Summer Classic will open at 5 p.m. Monday at the Legion Field (900 N. Black Ave.).

Re: Summer Classic
This looks like a lot of fun. I hope these players take it easy though. Even though softball is non-contact, I've seen and experienced a lot of injuries playing the game. I may have to drive up for this one.

Re: Summer Classic
Based on the rosters posted there are several incoming freshmen participating in the game, which is pretty cool. I wish I was around Bozeman then to come watch it - anything that supports Special Olympics is a great event!
