That SMU game was heart-breaking last year, to lose by 1 point. Especially after being up 22-19 at half.

Washington State was even worse. I think we were up 22-7 to start the 4th quarter, committed 3 turnovers, and lost by 1.Sotallytober wrote:That SMU game was heart-breaking last year, to lose by 1 point. Especially after being up 22-19 at half.

The only downside not mentioned in the article is getting a couple key guys injured in a throw away game...

Yeah this isn't a throwaway game. The real contenders each year almost always have a FBS win on their resume. This team is relishing the opportunity that's in front of them.catatac wrote:Counter Assault wrote:The only downside not mentioned in the article is getting a couple key guys injured in a throw away game...

Players get hurt in all different ways, like Kurt Davis blowing his ACL in the first practice last year. Looking at the ASU roster, they aren't any bigger than the Cats. Faster, probably, but not bigger.

On the contrary I think you should go. I mean if you are the key element in us being close in these play up games then by all means you should be there.Cats15 wrote:I was at both...both were a punch to the gut...Don't worry, I will not be at the A state game
I'd be willing to put in a little to help you get there and I hope others will add to the pot too. I'd even double my contribution if you bring home a W for us.
Now let me see, how much change do I have in my pocket?

“Arkansas State has not been successful because they’ve been huge,” Ash said. “Arkansas State has been successful because they can really run. They have great speed. The return guy is a great football player, an NFL guy. The quarterback who is going to be playing is an extremely good athlete. I’m much more concerned with the speed matchup than the size.”DicTater wrote:Players get hurt in all different ways, like Kurt Davis blowing his ACL in the first practice last year. The "doomsday" game of the 2011 season was against Minot State when Preston Gale, Sean Gords and Roger Trammell all blew out their knees.
In 2012, Zach Minter reinjured his hamstring against Drake and Brad Daly's slew of health problems began.
Against SMU, Craig Ashworth dislocated his knee and DeNarius McGhee separated his shoulder.
Injuries can happen to anyone playing football at any time.

What about A&M. Jack Rolovich took us down for the score on the opening drive, then we couldn't make a friggin fieldgoal the rest of the game.91catAlum wrote:Washington State was even worse. Respectfully, I think it's a throw away game. It means nothing for our record or playoff chances. If we win the conference and have a solid winning season, that is not the make/break game.Darth Yoda wrote:Yeah this isn't a throwaway game. I would rather see the Bobcats play NDSU, SHSU, App State, NH (whomever FCS powerhouse), rework the finances so we don't need the $400K body bag game and BE LEGIT.
I know I am going to have opposing views of that. I don't think playing FBS games gets us $hit.

Re: Bobcats relish chance to play FBS opponent again
They are high reward low risk. You seem to think we get players knocked out left and right in these games and I can't remember that ever really being the case. SMU had a few guys go down but they were flukey IMO.Counter Assault wrote:Respectfully, I think it's a throw away game. It means nothing for our record or playoff chances. Losing does nothing in the eyes of the playoff committee, but winning gets you some national press, albeit small and short lived, and FCS pollsters eat it up. Plus you get a paycheck, and correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure a lot of the players love these games, chance to play on a bigger stage than the BSC can offer.

Again, I would rather have that press stomping the crap out of an FCS powerhouse game-for-game series. Like payback SHSU? NDSU wuss-out redemption?

Re: Bobcats relish chance to play FBS opponent again
I bet 99% of NDSU fans , players, coaches, are a lot more excited that they took down Big 12 champions K State than they would have been traveling to EWU and beating them.Counter Assault wrote:Again, I would rather have that press stomping the crap out of an FCS powerhouse game-for-game series.
