Post by VimSince03 » Mon Oct 31, 2016 10:52 am

Class AA

1. Billings Senior (10-0)
2. Kalispell Glacier (9-1)
3. Billings West (8-2)
4. Bozeman (8-2)
5. Helena High (7-3)
6. Helena Capital (6-4)
7. Missoula Sentinel (6-4)
8. Missoula Big Sky (5-5)

The only consistent team in AA this fall is the Billings Senior Broncs and they finished up the regular season 10-0 with a forfeit win over Hellgate. They will play the #8 seed, Missoula Big Sky, in the first round at Billings. Billings West and Helena High played the best game of the week in Week 10 with the Bengals coming out on top, 28-21. It was a back and forth battle between two evenly matched teams. Billings West punched first with a 3-yard Caleb Nelson run but Helena RB Ryan Arntson answered with a 1-yard. After a Bryson Deming 53-yard touchdown pass to Chaz Maddock followed by another Arntson touchdown, the first quarter ended in a 14-14 tie. West scored the only second quarter touchdown as Bryson hit brother Braydon Deming for a 5-yard score. After a scoreless third quarter, Helena High owned the 4th quarter as QB Kaleb Winterburn hit TE Taylor England for a game-tying score before Arntson iced the game with his third 1-yard score of the game. The win means Helena High is the #5 seed while Billings West remains in the #3 spot. The Bengals travel to #4 seed Bozeman while Billings West welcomes #6 Helena Capital. Kalispell Glacier made some momentum for themselves going into the playoffs with a 47-7 throttling of Missoula Big Sky. After a scoreless first quarter where Big Sky executed their game plan (long drives running the ball with option QB Luke Janacaro), Glacier started being their explosive selves. Drew Turner got the scoring going with a 68 yard scamper as the Wolfback would finish the first half by scoring on four straight possessions, taking a 27-0 lead into halftime. Glacier welcomed back OT/DE Jaxen Hashley back in this game (returning from a two-week injury absence) and helped lead a defensive effort that held Janacaro to only 93 yards rushing (below his average) on 24 carries and zero rushing touchdowns. QB Tadan Gilman threw for 306 yards with 4 total touchdowns while Turner ran for 201 yards for the Wolfpack. Big Sky WR Nick Wakai had a nice game with 6 catches for 167 yards and one score. The win clinched Glacier the #2 seed and will welcome #7 Missoula Sentinel in the first round. The loss dropped Big Sky to the #8 seed meaning they will have to travel to Billings Senior in the first round. Bozeman got off to a slow start in the first half of their finale with Skyview but WR Lance McCutcheon took over in the second half as the Hawks won 38-16. After trading field goals, QB Callahan O'Reilly scored on a 6-yard run followed by a 12-yard pass to McCutcheon to go into halftime up 17-3. Skyview RB Drew Keierleber (who had a career high 170 yards rushing in his final high school game) scored from 6-yard out to get the Falcons within seven. However, McCutcheon scored the next three touchdowns to close out the third quarter with a 38-10 lead. Bozeman will be the #4 seed and welcome Helena High to town this Friday. Helena Capital held off Butte, winning 35-28 thanks in large part to a four touchdown performance from RB/LB Seth Schneider. He had three rushing touchdowns and a pick-six in the third quarter to give the Bruins a 28-21 lead. His final rushing touchdown iced the game after Butte tied it on a Ty Peterson touchdown pass to Kiley Caprara (second touchdown catch of the game). A win is a win but Capital did not play well against a struggling Butte team. For instance, Helena Capital's highest point total given up all season was 35 points against Billings Senior (who is the best offense in AA). Giving up 28 to Butte is a bad performance for that Capital defense. However, the Bruins still earned the #6 seed and will travel to Billings West in the first round. Like Capital, Missoula Sentinel had a lackluster performance against Flathead while still winning 17-10 in overtime. Flathead has some talented players like QB Bridger Johnson who tried to do it all in his final high school game. Johnson caught a touchdown on a WR reverse pass and he also sacked Mitch Roberts on defense. Sentinel jumped out to a 10 point lead in the first quarter but the Braves slowly tied the game with a Cody Cusker field goal in the third quarter. Flathead had the ball at the Sentinel 40 with two minutes to play but was stopped on downs which allowed Sentinel to have a chance at a game-winning field goal. It was went wide-right. Mitch Roberts scored the would-be game-winning touchdown during the drive but it was called back for holding. In overtime, Roberts scored on a 5-yard run and intercepted Johnson to secure the win. It was actually a huge win for the Spartans because they can now be on the opposite side of the bracket of Billings Senior. They will travel to Glacier for a rematch against the Wolfpack as Glacier beat the Spartans during the regular season in one of the wildest, highest-scoring games ever in AA, 63-62.

AA Co-Players of the Week in Week 10: Helena High RB Ryan Arnston - 48 carries for 209 yards for 3 touchdowns; Kalispell Glacier RB Drew Turner - 15 carries for 201 yards for 3 touchdowns; Bozeman WR/DB Lance McCutcheon - 7 catches for 121 yards and 4 total touchdowns (3 receiving/1 interception return); Helena Capital RB Seth Schneider - 134 yards rushing with 4 total touchdowns (3 rushing/1 interception return)
