It may only be September but the coaching carousel started spinning in college football today with a change being made in Flagstaff. Longtime Lumberjack head coach Jerome Souers will not be back after this season is complete. More coming up after a 5:30pm media session in Flagstaff. Souers has been the head football coach at NAU since 1998.

I met him once a few years ago at the GranTree bar the night before NAU played MsU, and he is a super nice guy. That being said, I'm sorta surprised he kept his job as long as he did, because it seems like his teams generally underachieved. I think he only made the playoffs 2 or 3 times in his 20 years there, despite usually being picked at or near the top of the BSC.

Well that game for the cats just got more emotional for NAU. It's their last home game of the Souers era

Sounds like NAU WR Emanuel Butler has serious shoulder injury. Not going well there.

I am surprised that he wasn't gone earlier. He has had teams that have shown great promise but can't seem to win the big games that turn the corner for the program. He was on Don Read's staff at UofM.

Souers retires, round 2.

Northern Arizona coach Jerome Souers is retiring after 21 seasons guiding the Big Sky program, according to reports.

Souers will end his career with a 123-114 record, including a Big Sky-record 85 wins in conference games. His 2003 squad earned a share of the Big Sky championship and was one of five that he led to the FCS playoffs.

This year's injury-plagued team finished 4-6. ......

Do I dare ask if Gregorak will apply for the job?

TG is more than due for a promotion. I’m guessing he’d be a short lister if that’s what he wants. Or he could do a lot better financially looking to FBS programs. I’d like to keep him a couple of years, but right now I think his stock has to be pretty high...

I think that his departure was in the wind since last year. After the ad got fired last year he got one year reprieve but I think he was a lame duck this year and they started looking last year for a replacement they just haven't announced it
And no, TG doesn't go there. One more year with Choate and on to FBS as defensive coordinator.
