Very, very minor rumor of the RAMS being interested. And you know rumors.
Of course most every team would probably be interested in him...

It would be a mistake to take him that high.BleedingBLue wrote:Kupp had the 5th fastest shuttle time among wideouts though, tied with John Ross and his route running wowed everyone. Steve Smith said of Kupp, "This is my top guy. There isn't a route he can't run." Pretty high praise. His quickness and route running will land him in the 2nd round I'd think. Late 1st if teams move around the right way.
He's gonna be 24, he's slower than the average WR, and I think he's strictly a slow guy in the NFL. Late first is crazy for Kupp. Based on his talent, shouldn't go higher than middle 3rd-4th, but he has a lot of hype behind him.

Re: EWU WRs at Combine
Cooper Kupp has some intangibles to consider besides his sterling EWU career where he broke nearly every major FCS receiving record and won the Walter Payton Award. When you couple this with genetics then maybe you have something special.
His father, Craig, was a gifted quarterback. He actually played at Montana Tech as a freshman before transferring to Pacific Lutheran in Tacoma. He was drafted in the 5th round by the Giants. He went to Arizona then the Cowboys. His stint was short...but still, an NFL quarterback.
Cooper's grandfather, Jake Kupp, started at OT and end for two Washington Husky Rose Bowl football teams. He also played on the baseball team. He was drafted in the 9th round by the Cowboys and went on to play for the Redskins and Falcons. But his term with the Saints was outstanding. He was the captain for several seasons and named to the 1968 Pro Bowl. He is in the Saints Hall-of-Fame.

The NFL is stupid so I am sure somebody will draft him, but it would probably be by a team like Cleveland, Bills or Rams. IF he makes a team he will be gone in a year or two.

Jerry Rice's time seems to be in dispute:
"Rice, for the record, ran the dash in 4.59 seconds, according to the late Bill Walsh. "

Re: EWU WRs at Combine
NFL Combine times seem to be slower than pro days, and camp times, for the same individuals. I don't think NFL Combine times are the final say on how fast a guy really is.91catAlum wrote:Tim Brown, from Notre Dame, ran at Rutgers pro day?JDoub wrote:NFL all-time leading receivers and their 40 times at the NFL combine:

Sports Illustrated reported Jerry Rice's best time at the NFL combine was 4.6
http://www.givemesport.com/434833-jerry ... t-mean-sht
^ White, David (April 21, 2009). "History points to speed over TDs". San Francisco Chronicle. Retrieved April 26, 2009.
Davis Mattek reports Combine results had Rice's worst time at 4.71, but calls it mythical -- this is actually a good read
http://rotoviz.com/2013/07/vincent-brow ... l-4-71-40/
But here's the thing with Rice - 4.56 or 4.7, is DRAMATICALLY SLOWER than most the other leading WR's. Tells me 40 times are not a make-or-break measure of NFL success.
As for Tim Brown, seems he did not run at the combine -- source for Tim Brown filled in the wrong Tim Brown. I couldn't find any 40 times for Tim Brown.
The Mattek article points out a correlation between WR size and speed in the NFL. That is, if you're under 6' and under 183 lbs, you need to be fast --
" since 1999, the only receivers to run an official 40 time at the combine slower than 4.65 and post top 30 fantasy seasons are Micheal Clayton and Anquan Boldin, and Boldin is the only receiver to do it more than once. "
Cupp is big, but not fast. Maybe he's the next Anquan Boldin, but the odds are stacked against him. Rice and Cupp seem to have a lot in common, not the least of which is "game speed" - just watch Cupp outrun Oregon DB's who are some of the fastest guys in college football.

Re: EWU WRs at Combine
When reading what I'm about to say, realize that there are always some exceptions to this rule, ok?
In the NFL, being above average athletically* doesn't mean you will be great, but if you are great, you're probably above average athletically.
*in regards to your peers

Right... the best rookie WR won't make an NFL roster... even though he's already slotted to start for the Rams.AlphaGriz1 wrote:When is the final cut? I still don't think he makes it.....not even on the Rams

I don't have one, all if them are pretty average. If I had to choose I would say Ronnie Hamlin he had a brilliant 11 year career there

Re: EWU WRs at Combine
This is why the Montana Grizzlies, the Big Sky, and the FCS is small-time football, although I do like it and follow it more than 99.9% of football fans. Let's not forget that AlphaGriz also thought North Dakota State would be a Top 10 team in FBS. That's so ridiculous.AlphaGriz1 wrote:When is the final cut? Kupp is a starter for the Rams at WR in the slot and a sleeper Fantasy pick if Goff or Mannion can throw a seam pass with some juice in the red zone.

Re: EWU WRs at Combine
Alpha never said that NDSU would be a top 10 team in the FBS.
What he did say is that NDSU would beat teams 11 and lower 9 out of 10 times. Thanks for trying to put words in my mouth.
That NDSU comment is still true

Alpha is busy enough with his foot in his mouth. If you put words in his mouth you could overload him, causing him to choke.
